Leah Russack-Baker, Ed.D, LADC, AADC, CCTP, CCFP

Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor | Trauma & Compassion Fatigue Specialist

Helping you understand the roots of the struggle and build a steadier life

Leah works with adults and families who feel overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck in painful patterns that are hard to change—especially when substance use, trauma, grief, or chronic stress are part of the picture. As a highly experienced addiction counselor, she helps clients understand the deeper roots of their struggles, break free from destructive cycles, and begin building a healthier, more grounded life.

With over 30 years of experience in behavioral health, Leah brings a deeply informed, compassionate approach to working with substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health concerns, and the lasting effects of trauma. She is especially skilled in helping clients whose addiction is intertwined with grief and loss, early life experiences, difficult family systems, burnout, or long-standing emotional pain.

Leah has extensive experience supporting first responders, healthcare professionals, military-affiliated individuals, and adult children of dysfunctional families—people who often carry a great deal of responsibility while struggling to care for themselves. She also works with family members and loved ones impacted by substance use, helping them navigate boundaries, detachment, and the emotional toll of supporting someone with addiction.

Her work integrates evidence-based and experiential approaches, including trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed work with addictive patterns, Seeking Safety, mindfulness, and self-compassion practices. She also incorporates inner child and self-parenting work to support deeper healing and long-term change. Leah is an International Association of Trauma Professionals Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and has advanced training in grief and loss through David Kessler.

In addition to her clinical work, Leah is a community wellness and resiliency trainer and educator, bringing decades of experience across hospitals, schools, and outpatient settings throughout Connecticut. She finds renewal through martial arts (she’s a third-degree black belt in Muay Thai and blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), and community service.
